Missed a few emails?
Start Fresh is a speculative feature for the Gmail suite, allowing users to regain control of their inboxes through a guided and reassuring decluttering experience.
While the project remains ongoing, it has been greatly beneficial in developing my skills as a UX designer. A key challenge was designing for user hesitation - people often know what they want to achieve, but struggle with making initial actions. By empathising with users and understanding the anxiety associated with such issues, I was able to design a flow that balances reassurance with action - resulting in an experience that feels safe and comforting.
STRATEGY
brief
Clutter is the mind-killer. In a society that prioritises clarity, we cannot afford to lose ourselves in an abundance of noise, much of which can be found in the places we visit every day - such as our inboxes.
challenge
Paralysis and fear often stop audiences from taking action, so how can we introduce this feature in a way that brings them comfort whilst allowing them to achieve their goals?
SOLUTION
Through constant reassurance of reversibility and safety, Start Fresh provides individuals with a simple, easy-to-use way of cleaning out their inboxes.
